How to Create a Bible Journaling Design to Trace

Have you ever found the perfect verse for a Bible journaling design, but wondered how to fit your idea into that narrow space beside the Scripture? One of my favorite solutions is to create the design on my computer first, print it, and then trace it directly onto my Bible page.

For this page, I’m journaling Isaiah 53:5. The entire verse was a little too long for the space I had available, so I chose the first phrase as the focus of my design.

You’ll see many different styles of Bible journaling. Some people create beautiful artwork that covers much of the page. I personally prefer to keep the Scripture visible so I can still read the verses surrounding my artwork. There’s no right or wrong way—it’s simply the style I enjoy.

Creating a Bible Journaling Design to Trace

The journaling space in my Bible is approximately 2 inches wide by 7½ inches tall. I created a box that same size on my computer, then added my text and digital artwork inside the box. You don’t need special design software to do this—you can easily create a text box in Microsoft Word and size it to fit the journaling space in your Bible.

Once I was happy with the design, I simply printed it.

After preparing my Bible page with matte gel and allowing it to dry completely, I slipped the printed design underneath the thin Bible page. Because I could see the design through the paper, I was able to trace it right where I wanted it.

It really is that easy! You don’t have to draw freehand or be a hand-lettering expert to create a beautiful Bible journaling page.
