Do you dream of a craft room that is clean and bright? A craft room where everything is organized and there is plenty of room to work? So do I! The space where you do your crafting should be a peaceful, inspirational spot where you can create beautiful projects. It can be pretty hard to be inspired when you’re surrounded by clutter. Even worse, if you can’t locate the craft supplies you need for a project. And because you can’t find what you need you may go out and buy doubles, spending more than you need and creating more clutter.
It is spring break for me this week and I had grandiose plans for a craft room makeover. However, it is now Friday and the only thing I’ve cleaned out is my waste basket.
But I’m not giving up on my plan. I will have a decluttered, clean and organized craft room. One part of me wishes I could just take everything out and start from scratch. However I do not have room in my house to store all my stuff while I redo the room.
Whenever I have a problem the first thing I do is see if anyone else has already solved it. So, I did a little research and this is what I found.
- Do one area at a time, one shelf then one table and so on.
- Have 3 large boxes labeled TRASH, DONATE, KEEP
- Don’t ask “what do I throw away” but instead “what do I want to keep”.
- When an area is empty, Clean, clean, clean
- Put like things together
- Make a place for everything
- Use a label maker so you always know where to put something back
- Start putting things in their proper place.
This process my take weeks to finish, but by taking one area at a time you can still use the room to create. This is important because what is life if you never have time for fun.
