There is something therapeutic about creating beautiful artwork – especially when you can find the time to craft.
There was a time last year when I took a part time substitute teaching job for 6 weeks. I would leave the house at 5:30 am and return home about 5 pm. Then I would fix dinner, do some chores like laundry and finally hit the bed at 10. The week days were crazy with no time for myself. So on Sunday afternoons I spent a few hours in my craft room to work on a quilt I was making for my great nephew. After that short time of creating a few quilt blocks I felt refreshed and reinvigorated. I thought I could concur the world again or a least a 2nd grade classroom.
That is the precise reason why I make time to create – it somehow manages to improve my mood and give me energy to keep going with life. And the following 5 ways are sure to get you back to crafting too. So if you’ve had a rough week or just need to find a little happiness boost, check them out.
My Top 5 Ways to Make Time to Craft
Schedule crafting into your week.
You might try leaving Sunday afternoons free like I did. Or you can sign up for a class or workshop. When I first started scrapbooking I would go to a scrapbook workshop one Saturday out to the month. The commitment allowed my to complete a lot of projects.
Get the kids involved
I have a friend that has a little craft table with supplies for her daughter. Mom works on her card making while daughter is having fun painting a picture or sculpting with play dough.
Spontaneous Crafting/ Vacation Crafting
Have a project that you can store all the necessary materials in a box. Then the next time you find you have an extra hour pull it out and craft away. When time is up just put it all back in the box. Also, I used to take my crotchet projects with me on long road trips.
Challenge yourself
A challenge is a great way to get motivated and stay focused. There are craft challenges all over the web. My favorite is LOAD. Alice Boll at Scraphappy.org has a Lay Out A Day 4 times a year. After we create our scrapbook page we upload it to a private flicr account. It’s fun to see every one’s creations and there are prizes too. I also have a challenge on my blog every Friday. It’s a color challenge and you can find out more at Color Challenge #CWK6118
Limit your screen time
Most people spend almost two hours on social media everyday, which translates to a total of 5 years and 4 months spent over a lifetime. Think of all the projects you could finish with that time. And it’s not just social media, Netflix and Network television suck our time away too. Pay attention to how much screen time you use then stop scrolling and start crafting.
Remember you will never find more time to craft. Each one of us only have 24 hours in a day. However, you can make time.
These are just a few of the ways I make more time to craft. Do you have any others to add? Let us know in the comments.

Great tips. I like the limit screen time the best. It’s so easy to ‘just have a quick check of facebook/twitter/pinterest and loose yourself down a rabbit hole that just sucks up time!
