Coloring the Scarecrow with Stampin’ Blends

One of my favorite parts of this card is bringing the adorable scarecrow to life with Stampin’ Blends. Alcohol markers make it easy to add depth and dimension, and the coordinating light and dark shades blend beautifully together.

Coloring the Denim

For the denim overalls and hat, I began with Dark Hydrangea. I added the darker color anywhere natural shadows would fall—under the brim of the hat, along the seams, around the pockets, and wherever I wanted a little extra depth. Then I filled in the rest with Light Hydrangea, blending over the darker areas to create soft, realistic shading.

Adding Warm Autumn Colors

Next, I reached for Golden Glow to color the patches, bandana, and hay bales, giving them a warm harvest feel. Cajun Craze was the perfect choice for the shirt, hat band, sunflower centers, and the twine wrapped around the hay bales. To brighten the flowers, I added Daffodil Delight to the sunflower petals for a cheerful pop of color.

Finishing the Details

Those mischievous little crows were colored with Secret Sea, while their beaks were finished with Smoky Slate. Finally, I used Light Crumb Cake to give the scarecrow’s face a soft, natural complexion.

The finished color palette feels warm, cozy, and perfectly autumn—exactly what I wanted for this Fall Fun Fold Card.

Coloring Tip

Don’t worry about making your shading perfect. Simply placing the darker color where shadows naturally fall and blending with the lighter shade creates beautiful results every time. Stampin’ Blends make it surprisingly easy to achieve a professional-looking finish.

Try This Two-Tone Cardstock Technique

Emboss it! Sand it!

One of my favorite things about Two-Tone Cardstock is how many creative techniques you can use to add interest to your handmade cards. For this project, I used a simple sanding technique after embossing the cardstock with the Leaf Embossing Folder.

Because Two-Tone Cardstock has a white core, lightly sanding the raised embossed areas reveals the white underneath. This makes the leaf design stand out even more and creates beautiful texture and dimension. It’s an easy technique that adds so much character to your card and gives the background far more visual interest than plain cardstock alone.

Little Tip

Don’t over-sand! A light touch is all you need to highlight the embossed details while keeping the rich fall color of the cardstock intact.
